SST-Porous®Plastic threaded explosion-proof valve for lithium battery pack of new energy vehicles,made by SST-Porous® PTFE waterproof and air permeable membrane and plastic cover, welded by ultrosonic or hot pressing, prevents battery from exploring when releasing large amounts of gas; it can be waterproof, dustproof and air permeable under normal working condition, ingress protection rate up to IP67; it can be reused with long service life.
The marketability of hybrids and electric cars depends on the batteries in a large extent. They must have high energy density, high performance and long service life, while also meeting stringent safety standards. In electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries currently dominate the field in order to obtain the highest capacity and voltage, many lithium-ion batteries are linked together in the power battery. As a result, battery chambers in electric cars are usually very large, weighing several hundred kilograms. For maximum safety, they are usually installed in a sealed housing under the seat at the bottom of the vehicle.
Therefore, when a vehicle encounters a puddle, car wash or fire, the batteries in the high voltage pool must be adequately protected to prevent water from seeping into the body of water (for example, in difficult terrain or flood). Moisture can cause short circuits that compromise the safety and function of safe vehicles.
However, the battery case cannot simply be sealed. Significant fluctuations in internal pressure due to temperature changes, possible high voltage batteries and altitude. Excessive pressure may cause deformation or even broken of the battery casing. So high-voltage battery cases in electric vehicles require pressure equalization systems that allow excess pressure to dissipate while keeping water out of the housing.
To meet this challenge, we developed SST-Porous® plastic & explosion-proof valves. The PTFE explosion-proof membrane is able to compensate for pressure differences while keeping water, dust, dirt and even oil out. They made the degassing device developed not only to protect the high-voltage battery from heavy rain or temporary immersion, but also this could even stop the high-pressure battery from ejecting water pressure cleaners.
At the same time, the internal pressure increasing instantaneously, PTFE porous membrane enables automaticly and rapidly gas releasing, and SST-Porous® plastic & explosion-proof valve achieves automatic pressure release under rated pressure to prevent battery pack from exploding due to sharp accumulation of internal pressure.
The PTFE explosion-proof membrane in the structure of SST-Porous plastic & explosion-proof valve works normally, which has the same working principle as that of ordinary waterproof and breathable membrane, namely to achieve balance of internal and external pressure difference, waterproof, breathable and dustproof
In the first stage, the safety valve in the structure of SST-Porous® plastic & explosion-proof valve opened instantaneously, making pack interconnect with the inside and outside, thus realizing rapid gas release, achieving pressure balance and preventing cavity bursting
The second stage: when the internal and external pressure balance, the safety valve returns to the initial sealing effect, so as to return to the normal working state.
O-A process: Pack internal pressure difference is within 35kPa. The PTFE explosion-proof membrane in the structure of SST-Porous plastic & explosion-proof valve plays a waterproof, breathable and dust-proof role in preventing cell shell deformation and seal failure, and balancing internal and external pressure difference.
A-B process: Once Pack internal pressure difference is greater than 35kPa, mixed gas and liquid pushes the safety valve of SST-Porous® plastic & explosion-proof valve and has instant direct contact with the outside to release gas and high internal pressure rapidly, avoiding battery pack explosion and reducing explosion damage.
B-C process: When the internal and external pressure difference is balanced, the valve returns to the initial sealing effect, so as to return to the normal working state.
